School Chaplaincy

Supporting Chappies SU QLD chaplains, or ‘chappies’, provide spiritual and emotional support to school communities. They are in the prevention and support business: helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness, to drug abuse, depression and anxiety. They provide a listening ear and a caring presence for kids in crisis, and those who just need a friend. They also provide support for staff and parents in school communities. I have been a Chaplain at Pomona State School now for 8 years so it feels right to support the program through Thrive Christian Community Cooroy. Whilst the government continues to fund these programs, like everything, it is never enough. There is always a shortfall as in order to work as a chaplain there is professional development and many updates to be completed throughout the year, not just one time, but several. These courses are mandatory, and so they should be, parents need to know that their children are in safe, capable and professional hands throughout the day and that when the need arises, chaplains are qualified to meet a crisis head on. Yes, we are in the preventative business, nevertheless there are times when Chaplains are called to support families suffering massive loses and that’s where you will see a number of Chaplains coming together to form a circle of professional support and love. If you have a heart for seeing Chaplains in schools, you can support us in this by making  regular monthly donations or a one off donation as you see fit. We are supporting the Pomona campus right now so that is where your donation would be truly appreciated. All donations are tax deductable. Thank you for your support in advance Pastor/Chaplain Paulette Gee A word about our honey. I always try to find a product that is of value to those who support Chaplaincy. Instead of it being something unhealthy or something that you just give away because you really don’t really want it, I chose honey because of its healing and health properties. Honey has a real purpose in any family kitchen. It’s used daily on our toast, it’s used to sweeten our winter porridge and our tea, it’s added to cakes, eaten on water crackers with brie cheese, and even used in curries.  Honey is a versatile necessity, don’t you think? And now to the quality: THRIVE BEEHIVE HONEY cannot be mistaken for anything other than what it is: absolutely 100% pure Australian honey. The consistency of honey, speaks volumes. Thick and non-runny honey means it’s a top shelf product! Nothing but the best for your family!  Definitely NO additives! The recording below is from an ABC interview regarding the threat to our Australian beekeepers. It’s a bit of an eye-opener. If you don’t know much about the honey process, this will explain precisely what is happening. It’s worth listening to. Honey shortage? Eat more honey! By Carol Duncan There’s an international honey shortage and Australia’s beekeepers are feeling the sting, but one beekeeper says the best response is for consumers to eat more honey, but make sure it really IS honey first. Australia’s beekeepers are experiencing one of their worst years in a long time. ABC Newcastle’s Carol Duncan spoke with third-generation Canberra beekeeper, Carmen Pearce-Brown about her concerns for Australia’s honey future. http://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2014/06/23/4031010.htm
